Air Beds use an air-inflated mattress blown up either orally or using a pump. This is usually made from plastic, textile-reinforced plastic or rubber. When deflated the mattress can be rolled or folded into a comparatively small size making storage and transport relatively easy.
Bunk Beds are a type of bed where two or more beds are stacked one above the other. This allows two or more people to sleep in the same room while maximizing available floor space lending them well to use in places with minimal floor space or places wishing to maximise the use of available floor space.
Futons are a type of traditional style Japanese bed, also available in larger Western styles. Futons are relatively flat, around 5 cm (2 in) thick and filled with cotton or some type of synthetic batting. Futon sets are often sold including, the futon mattress (shikibuton), a comforter (kakebuton) or blanket (mōfu), a summer blanket (towelket), and pillow (makura) which is usually filled with beans, buckwheat chaff or plastic beads.
Four Poster Beds are built with four posts at each corner supporting a tester, which is essentially a large panel used to enclose the top of the bed and was intended to hold the curtains that would surround the bed in order to keep out draughts. While their primary function is now largely unnecessary, due to improved insulation and draught exclusion, four poster beds have remained popular in the UK due to their attractive and traditional appearance.
Hammocks are simply a large piece of fabric suspended between two points. Often used by people for sleeping or sitting in places where space is limited.
Sofa Beds are a combination of a sofa and a bed, where the bed element is usually hidden from view when the piece is being utilised as a sofa but can be subsequently unfolded or removed from its hidden storage to easily provide a sleeping space.
